Shallow Water Lifeguard Certification Course

Are you interested in becoming a lifeguard or developing new job skills? The Jim Parsley Community Center offers Ellis & Associates International Lifeguard Training to persons 15 years of age and older. If you want to be a lifeguard, enroll in this class today! This course is a blend of online learning and hands on in-person training. Once registered, participants will be added to the online learning portion of the class within 24-48 hours. Participants must complete online learning modules and final exam prior to attending the in-person portion of the class. Please allow six to eight hours for the online portion of the class.

This course will cover: Basic lifeguard duties, shallow water rescue skills, vigilance awareness training, standard first aid, CPR/AED/02 support.

Successful completion of this course will earn you: A shallow water lifeguarding license (up to 5ft) and certifications in standard first aid, CPR, supplemental oxygen support, and basic life support. (All licenses/certifications are valid for 1 year. Active employees can renew their licenses at no cost)

Course fee:$200 (fully reimbursed after working 40 hours if hired by VPS). During the hiring process, a background investigation and fingerprinting are required. Fee is $82.00 at the applicant’s expense. Trainees must be a minimum of 15 years old to participate in the course. Trainees must be 16 years and older are eligible for hire by Vancouver Public Schools.

Lifeguard Training Program Agreement: Please review and bring a signed copy of the Lifeguard Training Program Agreement to the first day of training. If you do not have access to a printer at home, please let us know and we can print a copy for you to sign when you arrive.

Employment opportunity with VPS Aquatics: Vancouver Public Schools is hiring lifeguards and other aquatics positions. Applicants must be at least 16 years old to be hired by Vancouver Public Schools and hold a valid Ellis & Associates lifeguarding license. Please note: If you are interested in employment with Vancouver Public Schools, a back ground investigation and fingerprinting is required (fee is $85.00, at the applicant’s expense).
