Are you interested in becoming a lifeguard or developing new job skills? The Jim Parsley Community Center offers International Lifeguard Training to persons 15 years of age and older. If you want to be a lifeguard, enroll in this class today.

Please note: Upon successful completion of this course, if you are interested in employment with Vancouver Public Schools, a back ground investigation and fingerprinting is required (fee is $82.00, at the applicant’s expense).

Course fee:$200 (fully reimbursed after working 40 hours if hired by VPS). During the hiring process, a background investigation and fingerprinting are required.  Fee is $82.00 at the applicant’s expense.  Trainees must be a minimum of  15 years old  to participate in the course. Trainees must be 16 years and older are eligible for hire by Vancouver Public Schools.

Propstra Aquatic Center

This course is a blend of online learning and hands on in-person training. Once registered, participants will be added to the online learning portion of the class within 24-48 hours. Participants must complete online learning modules and final exam prior to attending the in-person portion of the class. Please allow six to eight hours for the online portion of the class.

This course will cover:

  • Basic lifeguard duties
  • Water rescue skills
  • Vigilance awareness training
  • Basic first aid
  • CPR/AED/02 support
  • Customer service and leadership skills

Successful completion of this course includes certification in:

  • Shallow water lifeguarding
  • CPR/AED certification
  • Basic first aid

The first day of training will be at Jim Parsley Community Center and the second day will be at Propstra Aquatic Center. Must attend both days.
